Lovewell International: Sweden
Lovewell Institute began its first cultural exchange in l993 when students and arts education teachers from Sweden attended the annual summer workshop in Salina Kansas.
Lovewell Sweden was created in l996 with the sponsorship of Elajo and thirteen American students traveled to Oskarshamn, Sweden. Together with their Swedish counterparts, they created the musical "Backstage Story". Performed for the local community at the Forum Theatre, newspapers called it "a colorful, sparkling and very strong performance". An American student was awarded a scholarship to study voice in Sweden the following year.
In the summers of 2003, 2004 and 2005 original productions of "Storm, a musical journey" and, "360 Degrees, a musical connection" and ' The Road To Eville' were hailed as international successes. Due to the wonderful work, we received grant support from the state of Florida, the Swedish Women's Educational Association and the town of Linköping.
The summer of 2006 brings a new adventure to Lovewell and its Swedish friends. Plans are underway for another exchange program in beautiful town of Linköping. Also, we will have a reverse exchange when we bring Swedish staff to Fort Lauderdale for our summer workshops.
